Summary :
This story is about a lady doctor , by the name of Dr Tan Poh Tin . She was a doctor based in Malaysia and had gone to volunteer in numerous medical mission in different parts of the world . In this particular story , she describes a mission to Afghanistan to help the injured victims there after the Taliban had been driven from power , leaving many people killed and many injured . She met many numerous people in her stay there , which made her have a different impression of life . She also helped many diferent people there but for some , there is no longer any hope for them as there is no proper medical facilities nor is there proper medication and all she could do for those who have no longer any hope is that she can only pray for them and hope that all goes well for them . For some , they are lucky as they have received proper medication and are on the road to recovery . However , their psychological wound cannot be healed by her , and that could only be healed by themselves and it takes time for them to do so . For example , one who lost their loved ones in the fighting may take a long time to overcome this lost and may lead to depression in the long run . During this time , what they need the most is the support of their family members in order to walk out of this ordeal . The acts of Dr Tan Poh Tin has help pulled many up from their ordeal , and indeed she will always be regarded as a heroine to those who had received her help before .
Reflection :
After reading this article , I personally feel that Dr Tan Poh Tin is a heroine to many people . She helped many people at many different places at different disaster . She does all this on voluntary basis , with no hopes of being repayed by any . If many people are like her , reaching out to the needy when they are needed , then , the world would be fully of passion and love . People would not remain isolated and would know that there would be someone there for them when they are in need . However , all these can be prevented if there is world peace and there would be less fighting . Reduced fighting would mean that there would be lesser deathes and casualties .
Though we cannot prevent natural disasters from occuring , we can take up several measures to reduce its horrifying effects , such as educating the public , or installing warning signals around the country , which can significantly reduce the casualty rate . When there is reduced casualty rate , it would mean that there would not be the need for other countries to render their aid . Also , I feel that effort needs to be done to improve the medical facilities in the less developed areas so that in the event of a natural disaster with many casualties , the hospitals would have the necessary equipments to deal with it . With such improvements , many people would survive though they are injured instead of many people dying from their injuries though they survive the disaster .
